Doing What I Love...
I took some time out today for a spot of cushion making...The lovely old arm chair was another that I picked up recently from the recycling centre, for the bargain price of £20 - Very comfy it is, but I'm all for an extra little bit of squishiness that only a feather filled cushion can provide!
I used a lovely hand worked antique tapestry as the centrepiece, combined with a rare velvet Sanderson at the sides, and a French striped fabric woven with a rose design, top and bottom. For the backing, I used a charity shop find (£1!) in a wonderful olive green.
There had been so much to do since moving into our new home, that I hardly touched my sewing machine for 3 months (unheard of usually!!) - As we settle and decide how we'd like each room to look, it's been wonderful to get back to stitching and playing with fabrics again!
And there's no escaping that a bit of this needs to happen very soon! - I have several fairs booked before the festive season...the first one is on Saturday -
When the Frome Vintage Bazaar celebrates its 5th Birthday!

Sitting Pretty...
Then with sewing machine and staple gun poised at the ready, the fun bit of covering each section with some lovely vintage floral fabrics could begin...
Here she is complete and sitting pretty in pink in the autumn sunshine of our conservatory.
She has several floral friends...most of these have had a makeover too...
In our previous home, they were all sat in our little garden summer house...
Here in the countryside, I felt they needed to grow-up and do away with their overly bright summer floral finery...I've toned-down the seat covers for a calmer palette provided by an assortment of lovely vintage Sanderson linens.
The perfect place to relax and consider the next makeover projects!

Looking for New Homes...
I'm still sorting through the boxes piled high in my garden studio since our move here, which hold most of my vintage collections. As I've mentioned previously, a lot of what I've collected over the years does not suit our new home, so I'll eventually have to let much of it go...To get a good balance of merchandise on my stall at Frome on Saturday, I am keen to take a little bit of everything...
Too many hats here for one fair, so I think about 4 or 5 will make it into the car...
This will be the last time I attend a fair at Frome...Its always my favourite event, but it's a long way to drive, particularly with such an early start. As from next month I shall be attending the regular flea market in South Molton, which is much nearer to home. Slowly over this year and next I shall be offering items from my personal collections for sale, as well as having some of my new handmade products (my beloved vintage fabric stash will always stay with me and be added to, to be used in the items I create)...
Hope you'll watch this space for more details... |

Vintage Bazaar, Frome
The next event that I shall be attending is the (always fabulous!) Vintage Bazaar at Frome. Full details on the blog here.
Since moving to rural Devon, I have found that most of my vintage collections no longer fit with the style of our new (old!) home, so I am being extremely brave ;-)) and pricing much of it up, to offer for sale at the fairs...
Their first outing with be to the Vintage Bazaar on Oct 31st.
Lots of exquisite pieces, fresh to the market - I'll add photos here over the next few days as I uncover more...
I DO hope you can come along.
